TATEV BAROYAN

Armenian-American soprano Tatev Baroyan was born in Yerevan, Armenia, into a family of musicians. Her musical studies began in the Yerevan Specialized Music school named after P.I. Tchaikovsky as a piano major followed by Komista State Conservatory Vocal Performance major in the class of Hasmik Hatsagortsyan. Ms. Baroyan is a graduate of Sarasota Opera’s Apprenticeship program and Teatro Nuovo’s Studio Artist program. During that time, Tatev made her professional debut with Sarasota Opera performing the role of Papagena (The Magic Flute).

Highlights in her 2022/23 season include her return to New York City Opera to make her role debut as Annina while covering the role of Violetta (La Traviata) directed by Michael Capasso under the baton of Constantine Orbelian, and the role of Berta (Il Barbiere di Siviglia) directed by Helena Binder. Ms. Baroyan made her company debut with New York City Opera in the world premiere production of The Garden of the Finzi-Contini by Ricky Ian Gordon and libretto by Michael Korie, directed by Michael Capasso as cover of the title role of Micòl Finzi-Contini.

Recent appearances include Alaide in La Straniera by Bellini, Anna in Maometto II by Rossini, Berta in Il Barbiere di Siviglia Rossini, and Rossini Stabat Mater in concert with Teatro Nuovo. Tatev’s repertoire also includes Zerlina (Don Giovanni), Musetta (La Bohem), Liu (Turandot), Anoush (Anoush by A. Tigranyan), Micaëla (Carmen). A sought-after concert performer, Baroyan has sung in solo concerts in Yerevan Armenia, Sarasota Florida, St. Petersburg Florida, and New York City.

Within the 22/23 season Tatev received second prize in Southeast Region of the Metropolitan Opera Laffont Competition, first prize in the Florida District competitions, she was a finalist and recipient of the Hope for the Future of Opera Award in the Batumian Rhapsody Opera’s Golden Voice International Competition. Ms. Baroyan has been an award recipient from numerous organizations including Metropolitan Opera National Council South Carolina District, Georgia District, third prize winner of Premiere Opera Foundation International Vocal Competition.
Some of these awards included master classes with world renowned artists such as Erin Morley, Carol Vaness, and more.
